An editorial review is written by people who can give your book credibility and is published with the book. A customer review is written by a customer and published independently on a book's sales page. While both types of reviews promote the book in different ways, there are two critical differences worth noting.

First, because an editorial review is published with the book, they must be kept separate. In other words, someone who wrote an editorial review cannot write a customer review. You also cannot take a customer review and simply publish it in an updated edition of the book.

Second, while it is against Amazon's and other retail sites review policies for customer reviews to be incentivized, you can pay for an editorial review because it is published with the book. This is one of the reasons why someone who endorses your book cannot leave a customer review. If Amazon realizes you paid them, it could result in the review being removed or the book itself being removed from sale channels.
